Drawn Out Representations
These are drawings of photographs of women found in contemporary mass media imagery, built on ideological constructions of Westernised beauty, with chiselled jawlines, pouting lips, plunging necklines and brimming breasts: bodies as objects and things to observe, air brushed, emotionless, absent. Fantasies of visual perfection, at times here drawn with elements to disturb the clean surface. Face and body severed from the whole, woman is signified as a beautiful part, caught, framed and shot; offering visual pleasures and sustaining illusions, to be looked at but never seen.
